Introduction:
2,4-D is a selective, systemic, and synthetic auxin herbicide used for the control of broad-leaved weeds. It is absorbed through the roots and increases biosynthesis and production of ethylene, causing uncontrolled cell division and damaging vascular tissue. The herbicide is readily absorbed by the foliage, and translocation occurs with accumulation principally at the meristematic regions of shoots and roots. It acts as a growth inhibitor. 2,4-D is used for post-emergence control of annual and perennial broad-leaved weeds in cereals, maize, sorghum, grassland, established turf, grass seed crops, sugar cane, rice, and non-crop land.
