It is a selective contact herbicide, absorbed more readily by the foliage (and especially the shoots) than by the roots, with very little translocation and inhibited lipid synthesis. EPTC is usually applied pre-emergence, that is, before weed seeds germinate, and is typically incorporated into the soil immediately after application, either mechanically or by overhead irrigation.
