Introduction:

Profenofos is a broad-spectrum insecticide used on a wide variety of crops, particularly targeting Lepidoptera and mites. It functions as a non-systemic insecticide with both contact and stomach action, acting as an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. Profenofos is extensively applied in cotton fields for insect control. The metabolism of organophosphates primarily involves oxidation, hydrolysis via esterases, and reaction with glutathione. Additionally, demethylation and glucuronidation may occur.
